When we hear about British Columbia, we think about its beautiful landscapes, its friendly people and its rich history. Around the world, the Canadian province is considered a dream destination and it’s easy to see why.
The two most popular cities in British Columbia are Vancouver and Victoria on Vancouver Island . Vancouver is the bustling metropolis of the region, the birthplace of technological innovation, video game development and film production. Victoria, on the other hand, is a picturesque university town, home to the provincial capital building and offers countless opportunities for outdoor adventure.
Because choosing between these two dream cities is difficult, I wrote this short article to help you determine the one that suits you best.
Do you like water sports?
Of course: Welcome to Victoria. Victoria is the southernmost city on Vancouver Island. Although it is one of the 50 largest islands in the world (and home to about 750,000 people), it is still surrounded by water. Which means that no matter where you are on the island, you are less than an hour from the pleasures of sailing, kayaking or the beach. You can even go whale watching.
Not really: Vancouver is for you. The best thing about Vancouver is its seaside location, ideal for enjoying the pleasures of the beach, water sports and boating, if you wish. But, it also offers a pleasant urban life, so that if water sports are not your cup of tea, you can enjoy the beautiful peaceful coastline in simple backdrop.
What do you think of cycling?
I’m a fan: You absolutely have to go to Victoria. The capital of British Columbia has more bike lanes than any other Canadian city. So, if you want to discover the city by bike and enjoy all the benefits of outdoor travel, Victoria could become your second home.
I love it no more: While Vancouver has been very adaptable to the needs of cyclists, it also offers transportation and major airports that will take you to non-stop North American destinations such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles or New York .
